HB 2326 Filed - Addresses Root of the HPV Problem

Representative Charlie Howard's office notified me today that Representative Howard has filed HB 2326 which will move the power to add mandatory vaccines from one person, to the Legislature. This bill really gets to the heart of the HPV mandate problem.

Previously, the power to mandate a vaccine for public school attendance was in the hands of one individual: the Health & Human Services Commissioner.

Thus, Perry was able to mandate via Executive Order RP65 that the Health & Human Services Commissioner himself mandate the HPV vaccine.

If HB 2326 can become law, this power to add mandatory vaccine will rest in the hands of the people - the Legislature - where it truly belongs.

Read the full text of the bill here as a pdf file, or here as an html file.

Contact your Representative and voice your support for this bill. Like all bills, this will need to be voted on in committee first. When I know committee assignment (I expect it will be the Public Health Committee), I will update this blog with that information.

In the mean-time, continue to express support to your representatives for HB 1098 - which blocks Perry's mandate.
